Scenario 1: Suspicious Activity on CCTV

You're a security guard monitoring live CCTV footage in a busy office building. You notice someone loitering in the parking area for over 30 minutes. The individual appears to be pacing, looking around nervously, and repeatedly glancing at the building entrance. They are not an employee, and no one has reported a visitor fitting their description.

Q 01 : What should your first action be after identifying the suspicious behaviour?

Your first action should be to observe the individual closely and gather as much information as possible, such as their appearance, behaviour, and any other relevant details. Do not take immediate action but remain vigilant.

Q 02 : Should you approach the individual directly or alert someone else first?

You should alert your supervisor or the appropriate authority before approaching the individual. Approaching them directly could escalate the situation or compromise your safety.

Q 03 : What steps would you take to ensure the safety of the building and its occupants?

Maintain visual surveillance of the individual while ensuring the doors to the building remain secure. If necessary, lock down access points to prevent unauthorised entry and notify on-site personnel to be alert but not to confront the person.

Q 04 : How would you report this incident, and what details would be most important to include?

In your report, include:
1: The time the individual was observed.
2: A detailed description of the person (clothing, physical appearance).
3: The location and duration of their loitering.
4: Behavioral patterns observed (e.g., pacing, nervousness).
5: Any actions taken by you or your team during the incident.

Scenario 2: Unauthorised Access Attempt

While on your routine patrol of a corporate office, you notice that a door leading to a restricted area has been left slightly open. Upon closer inspection, you see that the lock has been tampered with, and there are no authorized personnel scheduled to be in this area at this time. As you approach the door, you hear faint noises coming from inside the room.

Q 01 : What is the first thing you should do upon discovering the open door?

The first thing to do is to stop and assess the situation. Do not enter immediately. You should ensure that you are in a safe position and avoid putting yourself at risk by entering an unknown area.

Q 02 : How would you assess the situation safely without putting yourself at risk?

Notify your supervisor or backup immediately about the tampered lock and any suspicious noises. If possible, review nearby CCTV footage to gather more information. Do not enter the room without backup.

Q 03 : Should you enter the room immediately, or should you contact backup or the police?

You should not enter the room immediately. Contact backup and, if necessary, the police to handle the potential breach. Entering alone without assessing the situation could be dangerous.

Q 04 : How would you document this situation, and what should you do after ensuring the area is secure?

After the situation is resolved, document everything:
01: The time and location of the incident.
02: The condition of the lock and the door.
03: Any sounds or activities observed inside the room.
04: The actions taken, including who was contacted.
Once the area is secured, you may need to review security footage, follow up with an investigation, and report it to the necessary parties.

Scenario 3: Fire Alarm Activation During a Shift

During a night shift at a shopping mall, the fire alarm suddenly goes off. The mall is nearly empty, with only a few late-night shoppers and staff. You are unsure if it is a false alarm, but no prior alerts have been reported. The alarm is coming from the food court area, where you notice smoke starting to billow from one of the restaurants.

Q 01 : What is your immediate responsibility upon hearing the fire alarm?

Your immediate responsibility is to ensure the safety of the occupants by coordinating a calm and orderly evacuation. You should also notify emergency services and check for instructions from fire control systems if available.

Q 02 : How do you ensure the safe evacuation of shoppers and staff from the building?

Guide people towards the nearest exits, ensuring they remain calm and leave the building quickly. Ensure that no one re-enters the building until it is declared safe. You should also verify that the emergency exits are clear and functional.

Q 03 : Should you attempt to investigate the source of the smoke, or leave it to emergency services?

You should not attempt to investigate the source of the smoke on your own. Leave it to the fire department or emergency services. Your priority is the evacuation and safety of the people in the building.

Q 04 : After the situation is resolved, how would you report the incident and what follow-up actions might be necessary?

After the fire alarm incident, submit a detailed report including:
01: The time the alarm went off.
02: The areas affected (e.g., the food court).
03: Any actions you took to evacuate people.
04: The response from emergency services and the outcome of the situation.
Follow-up actions might include reviewing fire safety protocols to ensure compliance, organizing additional fire drills, or assessing any damage caused.
